  ACT:  the official site has free downloadable booklets, sample tests, tips for success, a list of sites, registration information, and more. GED: the official site has information about what to expect from the test, sample questions, local contacts for times and registration, and more.
  SAT & PSAT:  this site from CollegeBoard has free sample questions, a free full-length practice test, registration information and more. Test Prep Review is a non-profit, educator-developed site that has free sample questions and exams for 40 tests, such as the ACT, ASVAB, COMPASS, GED, GRE, LSAT, MAT, PRAXIS, PSAT and the SAT.  They also have lots of tips, a vocabulary list, basic test-taking advice and information, and best of all--no pop ups or ads.
  4Tests.com has online practice tests for high school, college, professional, military, postal, medical exams and others.  There are a lot of pop-ups and advertisements, but the exams are free with no registration needed.  Includes ACT, GED, SAT, GRE, CLEP, LSAT, NCLEX, MCAT, ASVAB, etc. Free and Affordable Online Practice Tests searches the web and provides links to free and low cost online sample questions, tips, information, and even full-length practice exams for high school, college, business, government, military, medical and dental, teaching, real estate exams, and many more.  Very extensive.

  Academic Info can be searched by college or degree, links to test prep sites, such as the DAT, LSAT, MCAT, and others, and has a great directory for finding the best web sites in your discipline--a wonderful research tool.  College Board has information about taking and registering for the SAT, PSAT, CLEP, & AP tests.
  College is Possible has A Resource Guide for Parents, Students, and Education Professionals maintained by the Coalition of America's Colleges & Universities.  Sections include:  Preparing for College, Choosing the Right College, Paying for College, For Adults (working adults who are thinking of returning to school).  Each section includes information, and a list of best sites & schools. Students.gov is an index of government websites of interest to students maintained by the U.S. Department of Education.  Topics include:  Plan Your Education, Pay for Your Education, Career Development, Community Service, Military Service, Travel and Fun, and Government 101.
   

Financial Aid

  FAFSA The Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  This site from the US Department of Education has everything you need to complete the application online. FastWeb The Internet's leading free scholarship search service helps students make the decisions that shape their lives: choosing a college, paying for college and finding jobs during and after college.
  Fin Aid The Smart Student Guide to Financial Aid, has information on loans, scholarships, military aid, and other types of financial aid.  Includes a link to FastWeb's free scholarship search (requires registering online). Grants.gov is a great place to start looking for federal grant information.  Search grant opportunities by category or agency, or by keyword.  Download application packets, and find advice in their Customer Support area about applying, get answers to commonly asked questions, and find email and phone contact information.
  SCIway SC's website has information on South Carolina state funded grants, scholarships, and loans as well as listings for private financial aid sources.  Also links to SC college and university financial aid offices.  
     

School Rankings

  The Education & Social Science Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has a list of sites that rank undergraduate and graduate schools.  Includes the Top 50 Colleges for African-Americans, Kiplinger's 100 Best Values in Public Colleges, Business Week's Best B-Schools, Guardian's Guide to Universities, etc.  Also has a section entitled Rankings Caution & Controversy. US News & World Reports' annual rankings available online.  Includes rankings for graduate and undergraduate programs.
     
School Searches
  Embark.com and the Princeton Review jointly maintain this site that lets you locate undergraduate, graduate, and career & technical schools based on field of study, cost of tuition, location, and more. Peterson's allows you to search undergraduate and graduate programs.  College Quest allows you to search by location, major, size, etc.  Best College Picks tries to match colleges to your personal interests and goals.  Other topics include:  Career Ed/Guidance, Distance Learning, Financing Education, IT Channel, Private Schools, Study Abroad, Summer Opportunities, Test Prep, Training and Executive Ed.
